AWARD CEREMONY TO CELEBRATE THE ISAS BC 9001 CERTIFICATION OF THE LATVIAN NATIONAL RADIO |

On April 3rd, 2008, Latvijas Radio received in Riga’s Great Guildhall the ISAS BC 9001:2003 certificate for the quality of its management system. Latvijas Radio is the first European media and the first radio in the world to comply with the requirements of this professional standard specially designed for the media companies.
 The ceremony was attended by prominent representatives of Latvian authorities, Latvian television and radio, by Raina Konstantinova and Giacomo Mazzone from European Broadcasting Union, Christine Grieder from Swiss Development and Cooperation Agency, also Marius Dragomir, representing the Soros Foundation, London, and Magali Modoux from Certimedia. After a unique and impressive performance of Latvian Radio Choir, magnified by the Great Guildhall’s medieval archs, Latvijas Radio Director-General Aigar Semevics was awarded a special recognition by Guillaume Chenevière, executive director of the Media and Society Foundation. Whereas Agris Azipurietis, lead auditor, and Kimmo Haarala, regional manager of the certification body Det Norske Veritas gave him the valuable certificate.

 The French Parliament television channel LCP-Assemblée nationale
announced its will to begin a certification process based on ISAS BC
9001, the international standard for quality management specially
dedicated to broadcasters.
Richard Michel, LCP's CEO, made the announcement during a press
conference hold on September 17th, 2008 in Paris, in presence of
Media & Society Foundation (MSF) executive director Guillaume
Chenevière and Certimedia Networks representative in Paris, Xavier
Gouyou-Beauchamp, from IMCA.

ISAS helps UNAIDS and AIBD to develop a new quality standard for HIV communication activities undertaken by media. This standard is particularly aimed at media managers who are in charge of managing entities producing HIV communication contents. In line with Total Quality Management concepts and ISO 9001 principles, it puts emphasis on the way the entity is organised rather than on the quality of the content itself according to the rule “a well organised and quality oriented media organization will produce high quality contents”. This approach usefully complements what has been done over the last ten years by the UNAIDS in terms of practical documents aimed at improving the quality of HIV communication contents. A list of those documents is available on UNAIDS website in UNAIDS’s Best Pratice Collection. |
