NEW STANDARD ISAS P 9001:2005: A QUALITY MANAGEMENT STANDARD FOR THE PRESS

certimediaInternational Standard ISAS P-9001:2005 has been developed by the Geneva-based Media & Society Foundation, a Swiss not-for-profit organization whose mission is to encourage the development of quality standards in broadcasting and the press. MSF created the BC-9001 standard for broadcasting and it is the main impetus behind the creation of this P-9001 standard for the press.   Its role consists in maintaining the standard and promoting worldwide the related certification systems.

ISAS P-9001:2005 is designed to help a press organization develop a management system that can consistently produce quality contents. It includes processes for continuous improvement of the system in the interest of readers and other stakeholders.

All requirements of International Standard ISAS P-9001:2005 are specific to the press and intended to be applied by all press organizations, regardless of type (newspapers, magazines, internet, etc.), size and editorial approach.

The aim of such a system is to make sure that a press organization meets the highest quality standards in the following areas:
  • Service to its readers  and the general public
  • Service to the society in which it operates, notably by promoting the open flow of information essential in a democracy
  • Service to other important stakeholders, including staff and advertisers
