PROF. SHOJI SHIBA, MEMBER OF THE ACCREDITATION BOARD OF ISAS, HAS BEEN AWARDED THE DEMING PRICE

The Deming Prize Committee has announced that Professor Shoji Shiba, Visiting Professor at the Leaders for Manufacturing program in Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Sloan School of Management, has been awarded the 2002 Deming Prize for Individuals.

The Deming Prize is one of the highest awards for Total Quality Management (TQM) in the world. It was established in 1951 to commemorate the late Dr. William Edwards Deming, who contributed greatly to Japan's proliferation of statistical quality control after World War II. Deming's teachings helped Japan build the foundation on which the level of its product quality has been recognized as the highest in the world.

DRAFT INTERMEDIARY STANDARD NGO 2000

SGS Société Générale de Surveillance SA, Geneva has submitted a Draft Intermediary Standard for the registration of NGO 2000.

This NGO 2000 Standard aims at enhancing the accountability and transparency of NGO' actions vis a vis their sponsors, governmental authorities particularly in recipient countries and the public at large.

This Standard, in its intermediary form, is composed of 43 normative requirements ranging from management of processes, quality and sustainability of their activities as well as ethical criteria to be applied by their personnel.

Temporary registration has been granted for six months by the Board of ISAS, pending the setting up of a Standardization Committee.

World Radio and Television Council (WRTVC) has launched in cooperation with ISAS

The World Radio and Television Council (WRTVC) has launched in cooperation with ISAS a feasibility study in six countries in order to evaluate the opportunity of a Radio and TV Rating Scheme aimed at evaluating the contribution of public broadcasting services to social development and democracy.

The rating scheme will be based on tangible evaluation criteria such as:

1- Technical, political and economical requirements
2- Flexible approach according to regional differences
3- Definition of and expectations from public broadcasting
4- Ecology of the audiovisual landscape
5- Public needs and expectations
6- Preservation of cultural diversity.

The results of this survey are expected by the end of 2002

REGISTRATION OF 33 QUALITY MANAGERS

As from April 1st, 2002, the following quality managers, trained within the last 3 years by the accredited training company Challenge Optimum S.A., Geneva, are registered in the ISAS Quality Managers Data Base for a period of 3 years from the date of issue of their diploma.

These laureates have:

successfully attended and passed the examination of a 170 hour course on TQM after at least 3 months work, successfully presented an original memoir and, as a consequence, have been awarded the

QUALITY MANAGER DIPLOMA

in line with the requirements of the ISAS QMA-2070 standard.
